Overseas deal labelled a success!
BHP Corporate Finance is delighted to have acted as lead advisor to the shareholders of The Label Makers Limited on its disposal to the Spanish headquartered, multi-national, Printeos S.A.
The Label Makers is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of high quality, premium labels. Founded in 1963 by the Webster family, the company serves many of the UK’s premium brands across alcoholic beverages; personal and homecare; and food sectors. It continues to play a leading role in the industry through its investment in cutting-edge technology and its pursuit of developing innovative embellishment techniques.
The transaction involved a highly competitive global process that drew significant interest from many of the industry’s major labelling manufacturers worldwide. BHP Corporate Finance worked in close collaboration with its international colleagues within the Translink Global M&A network who provided support at a local level to drive engagement with interested parties through all stages of the process.
David Webster, who will leave his role as Managing Director and continue to provide support as a strategic consultant, commented: “The decision to sell the family business which I had built up over 35 years was one of the hardest of my life. BHP was selected as our preferred advisor due to their experience, professional approach and association with Translink.
Translink proved to be a winner. We received global interest, from across Europe, the USA and China. BHP worked tirelessly, literally day and night to get the deal over the line in a very short timescale. I cannot recommend BHP enough, their dedication and international connections meant that we closed the deal well above our expected selling price.”
Hamish Morrison, Matt Scott and Juel Chowdhury led the multi-disciplinary BHP team which advised the shareholders of The Label Makers on the cross-border transaction.
Matt Scott commented: “It has been a pleasure to advise David Webster and The Label Makers team to deliver this significant transaction, and Translink Corporate Finance played a pivotal role in identifying and engaging with Printeos.
As one of the UK’s most reputable manufacturers of premium labels, the sale of this business attracted significant domestic and international interest, despite the challenges imposed by Covid-19. This strategic acquisition provides a platform for Printeos to enter the UK label market and is another example of the high level of consolidation within the sector.”
The deal marks our second successful cross-border transaction in the labelling space in less than 12 months following the sale of The Watermill Press to German-headquartered multinational, Possehl Group. We hope to announce more exciting news soon in what has been a very strong start to 2021.
